The Utah Quantum Initiative brings researchers and potential users together to identify credible applications, understand technical requirements, and evaluate where pilots or partnerships may be appropriate.
Navigation, timing & sensing
Quantum sensing may support precision navigation in GPS-limited environments, timing, imaging, detection, and measurement. Photonics and communications research may also contribute to more resilient and secure systems.
Discovery, diagnostics & simulation
Potential applications include molecular simulation, selected optimization problems, advanced imaging, and highly sensitive measurement. Progress depends on careful validation and close collaboration between technical and life-science experts.
Measure complex systems
Advanced sensing could improve understanding of subsurface conditions, geothermal resources, minerals, grids, and critical infrastructure. Precision measurement can create value before large-scale quantum computing is available.
Build the enabling layer
Quantum systems require controls, photonics, semiconductors, cryogenic electronics, packaging, interconnects, testing, and systems integration. Building those components can create economic opportunity across the supply chain.
